Oak Ridge Elementary Invites Parents to PE

Melaney Barecky-Vinson, Oak Ridge Elementary PE teacher, invited parents to the first ever Parents in PE day to participate in a Santa vs Grinch Showdown. Third through fifth grade students teamed up with their parents as they raced around on the scooters while trying to knock the opposing team out by flipping their solo cup off the stick.

While this was the first-time parents were invited to join their students in PE, Barecky-Vinson stated it will not be the last.

In her 14 years of teaching P.E., Barecky-Vinson said this was one of her favorite activities she has ever put on. “I loved watching the parents find their inner kid and the students had a blast. I personally think we all need more joy, and that is exactly what it did for everyone.”

Around 80 parents showed up to participate in the Parents in PE day. Even students who did not have parents attend expressed, "It was the best day ever!"
