Oak Ridge Elementary School

Oak Ridge Joins with FHS Culinary Arts

Pre-K students at Oak Ridge Elementary hosted very special guests, Emily Funk and Michelle Gordon, both culinary arts teachers at Frenship High School today.

As part of a study focusing on the community around them, Pre-K students are learning about the various career choices they will have as adults. Funk and Gordon baked cookies for the class to enjoy and talked about their jobs in culinary arts.

The teachers led students through baking imaginary bread, described how to safely use cooking utensils and gave examples of kinds of jobs you can get when you know how to cook. The students were very engaged and had several questions for the culinary experts.

This collaboration of elementary students with high school educators is an example of the FISD Strategic Plan focus where “all learners will be exposed to various fields of interest to cultivate a deeper understanding and passion for a successful future.”
